Disney is planning the launch of its own TV streaming service in 2019 — and it looks like one of its flagship shows will be a live action Star Wars TV show.
As well as an exciting Monsters Inc show, Disney are planning on bringing a live action version of George Lucas’ epic space opera to the small screen for the very first time.
According to Den of Geek, the critical and commercial success of Disney’s first two Star Wars movies has focussed minds at Disney HQ. A huge show will be needed to compete with the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, and they don’t come much bigger than this.
According to Disney CEO Bog Iger, the Star Wars project is in the development stage, along with the Monsters Inc show and a hitherto unnamed Marvel project.
Sadly, details aren’t forthcoming yet. The technical details of the new streaming service are still being ironed out, and execs will be waiting to see how Rian Johnson’s vision for the new Star Wars trilogy will pan out.
Our guess is that a new show would focus either on the Old Republic or the origins of Yoga et al. Watch this space.
