Let’s get one thing clear: staying in any customs union with the EU is not Brexit. We’d be unable to negotiate trade deals, tying us to the European superstate indefinitely.
Despite polling at just 7 percent in the latest YouGov poll, the Liberal Democrats continue to make a mockery of democracy.
Firstly, it’s quite staggering that these whack jobs have so many Lords, given just how unpopular they are right now. But the fact that 83 of them voted against the will of the people is difficult to fathom.
The party that is close to electoral oblivion — the laughing stock of British politics — is using procedure to block Brexit. Surely the Liberals are against the notion of an unelected upper chamber.
And think about this for a moment. In 2015, four million people voted for UKIP. The Lib Dems were destroyed, and have never recovered.
Even today, after all of UKIP’s problems, they remain at four percent of the vote, while the Lib Dems sit with their seven percent. Yet while the Liberals have more than a hundred Lords, UKIP doesn’t have a single one.
The fact that this disgraceful system still remains in the 21st century shames this country.
Abolish the Lords immediately. Politicians have been talking about it for years, and perhaps this affront to democracy and Brexit could be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
